BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday refuted a foreign media report that the central government is considering replacing Carrie Lam, chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), as "a political rumor with ulterior motives."

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks at a regular press briefing.

"The central government firmly supports Chief Executive Carrie Lam and the HKSAR government in administering in accordance with the law, and ending violence and chaos and restoring order as soon as possible," Hua stressed.
