PHNOM PENH, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported 173,072 tons of dry rubber in the first nine months of 2019, up 23 percent over the same period last year, according to a General Directorate of Rubber report released on Thursday.

The country made gross revenue of 231 million U.S. dollars from exports of the commodity during the January-September period this year, up 20 percent over the same period last year, the report said.

"A ton of dry rubber averagely cost 1,335 dollars during the first nine months of this year, about 29 dollars lower than that of the same period last year," Him Oun, acting director-general of the General Directorate of Rubber, said in the report.

The Southeast Asian nation exports the commodity mainly to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and China.

According to the report, the country has planted rubber trees on a total area of approximately 434,552 hectares, in which 234,722 hectares, or 54 percent of the cash crop, are old enough to be harvested.
