Taiwan business sentiment sinks in September

TAIPEI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- More manufacturers, service providers and builders in Taiwan held pessimistic or conservative views on the island's business climate in September, according to the latest readings from the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research.

In its latest business outlook survey in September, the think tank said 18.7 percent of manufacturers in Taiwan thought that the business climate had improved last month, down from 25.2 percent in August, while 39 percent of them thought the business climate had worsened, up from 28 percent in August.

The manufacturing composite indicator for September dropped 1.27 points from August to 94.67 points. The benchmark of 100 points was set in 2006.

For the service sector, the institute's composite indicator for September dropped for the second consecutive month, weakening to 89.23 points, down 1.67 points from the previous month.

Meanwhile, the construction sector's composite indicator for September fell 2.4 points to 97.96 points, ending a four-month rising trend.
