Most Chinese bankers consider monetary policy "moderate:" survey

BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese bankers reported rising sentiment on the country's monetary policy, a new survey from the central bank showed.

The monetary policy sentiment index stood at 54.5 percent in the third quarter, up 2.9 percentage points year on year, according to a survey report on bankers released by the People's Bank of China.

About 83 percent of surveyed bankers in roughly 3,200 banking institutions considered the current monetary policy as moderate, said the report.

The banking industry's business climate improved compared with the same period last year, while the banking profitability index stood at 66.7 percent, the report showed.

According to the report, the overall loan demand index of the banking sector came in at 65.9 percent, down 0.4 points from the previous quarter.
