GAZA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- A high-ranking delegation representing the Palestinian elections commission arrived in the Gaza Strip on Sunday for talks with Hamas over the Palestinian elections.

The delegation, led by Hanna Nasser, president of the Palestinian Central Elections Commission, came from the West Bank and entered the Gaza Strip through the Erez Crossing between the northern tip of the enclave and Israel, according to the media office of the crossing points between Gaza and Israel.

Earlier, Nasser and his delegation were designated by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to visit the Gaza Strip and hold talks with Hamas and other minor Palestinian factions about holding the Palestinian elections.

Abbas insisted that legislative or parliamentary elections should be held months before the presidential elections which will be held in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.

However, Hamas, ruler of Gaza, insisted that both parliamentary and presidential elections as well as the parliamentary elections for the Palestine Liberation Organization must be held at the same time.
