LANZHOU, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 21 people were injured after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit Xiahe County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Gansu Province at 1:56 a.m. Monday, local authorities said.

A total of 2,097 houses were damaged to varying degrees in the county. Traffic, water and power supply, heating, communications and other infrastructure in the quake-hit areas are operating normally, according to local authorities.

Strong tremors were felt in the county and many people rushed out to the streets after the earthquake. Local governments of all the townships in the county are evaluating the impact of the quake.

The quake was felt in the neighboring cities of Tianshui and Lanzhou.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter was monitored at 35.10 degrees north latitude and 102.69 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 10 km.
