BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Efforts should be stepped up to support the strategic goal of global plant conservation, said experts at an international forum that ended Wednesday.

Over 260 experts and scholars, from both home and abroad, agreed to maintain the continuity of relevant strategies within the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity at the World Forum on Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.

During the forum, experts called for deeper discussion on the relationship between the global plant conservation strategy and sustainable development goals of the United Nations (UN) after 2020.

The UN framework convention on climate change and UN convention to combat desertification were also suggested to be taken into consideration.

Botany experts supported the species conservation initiative of the IUCN species survival committee, including action plans for species protection and restoration, the establishment and management of protected areas, as well as more funding and policy support from the government.

The forum, initiated by the China Wild Plant Conservation Association, was held in southwest China's Sichuan Province from Oct. 28 to 30.
