BEIRUT, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri urged on Wednesday the acceleration of government formation in Lebanon to face economic challenges, the National News Agency reported.

"The country cannot bear more economic and financial pressure. A government must be formed and roads should be opened again," Berri said during his weekly meeting with his parliamentary bloc.

Berri also called upon the Lebanese to be united and to communicate with each other in the coming period to overcome current challenges.

Berri said he fears pressure from the international community following the resignation of the government.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri resigned on Tuesday amid nationwide protests against corruption while calling for the resignation of the government and the change of the current ruling political class.

Officials and local experts fear that a political vacuum may lead to further economic and financial deterioration in the country.
