Macao's cross-border vehicle traffic up by 14.5 pct in September

MACAO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Macao's cross-border vehicle traffic in September grew by 14.5 percent year-on-year to 444,626 trips, the special administrative region's statistics service said here on Wednesday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the vehicle trips passing through the Cotai Checkpoint rose by 13.8 percent to 137,920, whereas those going through the Border Gate inched down by 0.4 percent to 262,749.

The DSEC report added that there were 40,715 trips crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in September.

In the first three quarters of 2019, cross-border vehicular traffic went up by 8.9 percent year-on-year to 3,962,188 trips.

Arrivals and departures of commercial flights at the Macao International Airport totaled 5,972 trips in September, a growth of 20.9 percent year-on-year. The trips to and from the mainland (2,560) and China's Taiwan region (1,048) showed respective increases of 29.4 percent and 10.3 percent.

Arrivals and departures of commercial flights in the first nine months rose by 19.7 percent year-on-year to 54,725 trips.

Macao's licensed motor vehicles totaled 239,255 at the end of September 2019, a slight increase of 0.2 percent year-on-year. New registration of motor vehicles in September went up by 8.9 percent year-on-year to 1,189.

In the first three quarters of 2019, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 15.9 percent year-on-year to 9,155.

The number of traffic accidents rose by 22.5 percent year-on-year to 1,323 in September, involving 433 victims and one of them was killed.
