BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.35 percent, at 2,929.06 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.48 percent lower at 9,635.33 points.
The combined trading volume of stocks in the two indexes shrank to 451.11 billion yuan (about 63.96 billion U.S. dollars) from 467.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,037 to 398 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,605 to 490 in Shenzhen.
Companies in the sectors of animal vaccine and penicillin saw robust growth in its share price, with shares of Humanwell Healthcare (group) Co., Ltd. gained 6.63 percent to 12.54 yuan per share.
Shares in the sectors of aquaculture and digital currency led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.76 percent to close at 1,671.31 points.
