MADRID, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish economy grew by 0.4 percent quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of 2019, compared to the previous quarter, according to data published on Thursday by the Spanish Statistical Office.
The third-quarter growth was propelled by internal demand, which increased by 1.2 percent, and by an impressive 7.9-percent rise in business investment (machinery and company assets).
This helped cancel out a 0.8-percent drop in exports, (which had gone up by 1.7 percent in the second quarter of the year) and a 2.6-percent fall in investment in construction and housing in the third quarter of 2019.
On a yearly basis, Spain's GDP expanded by 2 percent in the third quarter of this year over a year ago, with internal demand accosting for the majority of that growth.
Employment grew by 0.1 percent in the third quarter, which always tends to be difficult in the job sector due to the end of many seasonal positions in the tourist and agricultural sectors. Enditem
