Profile: Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness

BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness will pay his first official visit to China from Sunday to Nov. 9, and attend the opening ceremony of the second China International Import Expo.

Holness was born in 1972 in Spanish Town of Jamaica and graduated from the University of the West Indies.

Holness was elected as member of parliament in 1997 and served as minister of education.

From October 2011 to January 2012, Holness served as prime minister.

On Feb. 25, 2016, the Jamaica Labour Party, led by Holness, won the general elections.

Since March 6, 2016, Holness has been prime minister and minister of defence, economic growth and job creation.

Holness is married and has two sons.
