GUANGZHOU, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Fabio Cannavaro has returned to Chinese Super League (CSL) club Guangzhou Evergrande as head coach, after the Italian handed a written self-reflection report to the club investor Xu Jiayin on Sunday.

"Cannavaro handed a written report to Xu Jiayin on Sunday afternoon, which was a serious summarization and deep reflection," the club said in an announcement.

"Xu praised Cannavaro's diligence, quick responding and good work at developing young players; but he also criticized the Italian on poor error correcting ability and team management," the announcement said.

Last Sunday, the club announced 39-year-old skipper Zheng Zhi would take temporary charge while Cannavaro attended "corporate culture training", following a 2-2 home draw against Henan Jianye in CSL.

It was believed by many that the Italian was actually sacked by the club for the second time, following his failed stint in 2014-2015. Famous coaches as Jose Mourinho and Luiz Scolari had been linked with the Chinese club in the past week.

Evergrande are currently leading the CSL table with only one point ahead of Shanghai SIPG with three matches remaining for this season.
