RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian Serie A giants Corinthians sacked manager Fabio Carille after a 4-1 loss to leaders Flamengo on Sunday -- the club's third defeat in four matches.
Carille, who led Corinthians to the 2017 Serie A title, is expected to be replaced on an interim basis by assistant manager Fabinho Felix.
"He is not the coach anymore. We had to make this decision due to some things that occurred. Every announcement of this type is sad, but it's something we had to do," Corinthians president Andres Sanchez told reporters.
Corinthians have failed to win in eight matches, their worst league run since 2013. They are currently eighth in the Serie A standings with 11 wins, 12 draws and seven losses, 26 points behind Flamengo with eight rounds remaining.
Carille, 46, was reappointed Corinthians head coach last December, having left the job seven months earlier for an ill-fated spell in charge of Saudi Arabian side Al-Wehda.
