According to a statement, IHEC and its monitoring teams have monitored the protests that took place in Karbala Sunday night, which led to a clash between security forces and demonstrators as protesters attempted to storm the Iranian consulate in the city.

Three demonstrators were killed by live bullets and 12 demonstrators and security forces were injured, IHEC said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi Sunday night called for life to return to normal as protests continue to unrest Iraq, asking for roads, schools and universities to reopen.
