Iran "has contributed to the buildup of our military capabilities," Hamas chief in Gaza said Monday, adding "Our homemade projectiles will turn the tanks of the enemy into burned pieces of iron."

GAZA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Hamas chief in the Gaza Strip said on Monday that Hamas has thousands of homemade projectiles and rockets.

The remarks were made by Yahya Sinwar during his meeting with dozens of youths in Gaza City, according to the Hamas' official website.

Hamas has military power that Israel should be taking seriously, Sinwar said.

Earlier, Israeli leaders threatened that if more rockets are fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel, the Israeli army would wage a large-scale military offensive to sweep Hamas from Gaza.

"Hamas and the Palestinian factions in Gaza will turn the Israeli towns into ghost ones in case it dares to act against our national causes," said Sinwar.

"Our homemade projectiles will turn the tanks of the enemy into burned pieces of iron," he added.

Iran "has contributed to the buildup of our military capabilities," the Hamas senior leader noted.

The Hamas spokesman in Gaza Fawzi Barhoum said earlier in an e-mailed press statement that the Israeli threats against Gaza "reflect the real internal political crisis Israel is passing through."

"The enemy has so far failed to break the determination of our resistance and our people, and all these useless threats are only boosting this determination to carry on with resistance," said Barhoum.
