LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Movie-streaming mobile platform Smart Cinema USA was launched here Sunday night to bring Chinese films closer to U.S. audience.

"We will bring the latest and hottest Chinese theatrical releases directly to the North American audience through mobile platform and help make incremental increases for the Chinese film overseas market," said Jack Gao, CEO and co-founder of Smart Cinema USA.

Using the latest technologies such as 4G/5G, cloud computing, tight compression algorithms and blockchain, the mobile app is a joint venture by Smart Cinema, a China-based online film platform, and North America's largest Asian film distributor Well Go USA.

The new movie app was officially unveiled at the 15th annual China-U.S. Film and TV Festival in Hollywood, heartland of the global entertainment industry.

"The film distribution model hasn't changed in over 100 years," Gao told Xinhua. "It's time to disrupt that model."

Hollywood producer Arthur Sarkissian said the launch was exciting. "It's a new way to look at how it could help independent distribution for filmmakers."

The mobile platform now features 17 Chinese movies, including "Dying to Survive", "Men on the Dragon", "Looking Up", "Cao Cao and Yang Xiu", "Chasing the Dragon II," which are for the first time available through a legitimate channel for North American viewers.
