4 tourists, 4 Jordanians stabbed in Jordan's Jerash

AMMAN, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Altogether four tourists and four Jordanians were stabbed on Wednesday and sustained injuries, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The tourists, including three Mexicans and a Swiss, were attacked by a knife at the Jerash tourist attraction and the attacker was arrested.

Two local citizens, a policeman and a tour guide were also injured.

Health Minister Saad Jaber had a first-hand look at the condition of the injured who had been sent to the Jerash Public Hospital.

The injured people were receiving necessary treatment, and critical cases were dispatched to the King Hussein Medical Centre in Amman via a special plane.

According to the minister, a Mexican tourist and a Jordanian citizen were in critical conditions.

Sources at the Public Security Department said that the suspected stabber has been identified and arrested. They added that an investigation is underway.
