Chinese ace speedskater Wu makes quarters of men's 500m in Short Track Speedskating World Cup

WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Olympic champion Wu Dajing reached men's 500m quarterfinals at the Short Track Speedskating World Cup held in Montreal, Canada on Friday.

Wu, who just won the event at last stop held at Salt Lake, finished first in his group with a time of 40.602 seconds for the quarterfinals. Wu's teammate Ren Ziwei also made quarterfinals.

In women's 500m, China's Fan Kexin, Qu Chunyu and Zang Yize all advanced. Elsewhere, Zhang Chutong and Han Yutong both reached women's 1,500m semifinals after finishing first in respective groups. In men's 1,500m, An Kai advanced into semifinals.

In addition, the Chinese team also powered into the semifinals of men's 5,000m relay, women's 3,000m relay and mixed 2,000m relay.

The World Cup Montreal stop takes place between Nov. 8-10.
