DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President John Magufuli on Tuesday vowed that his administration will take all necessary measures to ensure that the east African nation shook itself off the donor dependence syndrome.
"Tanzania could shake off itself from the donor dependence syndrome if we manage our natural resources accordingly," said Magufuli shortly before he had launched an autobiography authored by former President Benjamin Mkapa who ruled Tanzania for 10 years starting 1995.
He said Tanzania stood a chance of lessening donor dependence if it increased collection management of taxes, managed well its natural resources and implemented infrastructure projects.
"The role of the donor should be to complement what we are doing using our own resources," he said before he launched the 320-page autobiography titled: My Life, My Purpose: A Tanzanian President Remembers.
He said even in Mkapa's autobiography he has dedicated a whole chapter expressing his disappointment over what he has described as dependency attitude.
Last week, President Magufuli urged African countries to wean itself off donor dependency, saying the continent has abundant potential to advance ahead.
"Africa should rethink and reposition itself by taking stock of where we went wrong," said Magufuli when he officially opened the 18th African-Nordic Foreign Ministers' meeting in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.
The new autobiography launched on Mkapa's 81st birthday hopes to inform and inspire a new generation of African leaders and enrich the history of Tanzania and provide space for those who want to know more about Tanzania's development.
The book that supports African leaders to attain sustainable development for their nations and for Africa contains Mkapa's personal account of his unique memories.
The memoirs range from his childhood, time as president, and his continuing post-retirement involvement at the domestic and international stages.
The memoirs are enriched by his views on leadership and advice for aspiring leaders, said the statement.
