COPENHAGEN, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called for tougher punishment for Danish nationals who had fought for the Islamic State (IS), during extended question time in the Danish parliament on Tuesday.
"I have asked the Minister of Justice to go back and see if we can tighten the legislation, sharpen the penalty even more. These people do not belong to Denmark," said Frederiksen.
The prime minister also responded to whether her government was seriously enforcing a recent bill administratively depriving IS fighters of their Danish passport, which was passed by the parliament in October and came in force for almost three weeks.
According to the prime minister, the law was being implemented. "I do not have the opportunity to say more here because it is sensitive information. But the law is in effect, fortunately," said Frederiksen.
