Lawmaker urges Zambia to bring more BRI projects

A lawmaker urges the Zambian government to bring more projects through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) so as to improve the nation's infrastructure and boost economic growth.

KITWE, Zambia, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government has been urged to bring more of Chinese modern projects through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a lawmaker said on Tuesday.

This will benefit the people of Zambia in many ways resulting in improved economic growth, said Rasford Bulaya, member of Parliament for the Mpongwe constituency.

He said Zambia should look forward to engaging China on BRI for improved infrastructure development in the country.

In an interview with Xinhua, Bulaya expressed optimism that the Kafulafuta water system project, which is being constructed by the Chinese, would improve many lives in Copperbelt province of Zambia.

"This is a great project by the Chinese people," he said. "I am very optimistic it is going to change the lives of people in entire province."

The dam project will help increase food production by improving irrigation farming, Bukaya said.
