TRIPOLI, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The east-based army of Libya said it destroyed on Wednesday an operation chamber and drones stores belonging to the forces of the UN-backed government in the city of Sirte, some 450 east of the capital Tripoli.
"In the early hours of today, fighter jets of the air force carried out a combat mission. Different objectives have been determined in Gardabiya air base in Sirte, including a military drones operation chamber and some sites used to store and conceal drones and antennas," Ahmad al-Mismari, east-based army spokesman, said in a statement.
"Several fighter jets carried out airstrikes accurately and destroyed the objectives. The threats have been eliminated," the statement added.
For over seven months, the east-based army has been leading a military campaign in and around Tripoli, attempting to take over the city and topple the UN-backed government.
Thousands have been killed and injured in the fighting, and hundreds of thousands fled their homes.
Libya has been suffering escalating violence and political division ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011. Enditem
