Islamic Jihad reaches truce with Israel in Gaza after 3 days of tension

A cease-fire agreement was finally nailed down between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad after three days of escalating tension, leaving 34 Palestinians killed.

GAZA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Islamic Jihad on Thursday announced that a cease-fire agreement was reached with Israel in the Gaza Strip after three days of tension.

A spokesman for the movement, Musab al-Breim, told reporters in Gaza that the cease-fire agreement came into effect and has been implemented on Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m. local time, mediated by Egypt.

He said that the agreement includes stopping the policy of assassinations, the protection of demonstrators in the Great March of Return, and starting the practical steps of breaking the Israeli blockade that has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for over 12 years.

For its part, the Israeli army announced the return to the routine life in the towns and cities in southern Israel including the removal of all restrictions all over Israel.

Meanwhile, Gaza Health Ministry said in a press statement that since Tuesday, 34 Palestinians had been killed and more than 100 injured during the intensive Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
