TOKYO, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as the market mood was buoyed by renewed hopes for progress in trade discussions between two major economies.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 161.77 points, or 0.70 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,303.32.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.27 points, or 0.73 percent, to finish at 1,696.67.
The majority of industry categories closed in positive territory, with farm and fishery, pulp and paper, and precision instrument-linked issues comprising those that gained the most by the close of play.
