DUBLIN, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ireland's goods imports were valued at 6.6 billion euros (about 7.3 billion U.S. dollars) in September, down by 1.6 billion euros or nearly 20 percent when compared with the same month last year, according to the data released by the country's Central Statistics Bureau (CSO) on Friday.

The sharp drop in the country's goods import value in September was mainly due to declines in the imports of other transport equipment, including aircraft, and medical and pharmaceutical products, said the CSO.

Ireland's imports of other transport equipment decreased by 1.27 billion euros or 56 percent year-on-year to 1.01 billion euros in September 2019, it said, adding that the country's imports of medical and pharmaceutical products decreased by 653 million euros or 53 percent to 553 million euros in the month when compared with a year ago.

In September 2019, Ireland exported a total of 12.37 billion euros worth of goods, up by 829 million euros or 7 percent year-on-year, said the CSO.

During the first nine months of this year, Ireland exported a total of 113.7 billion euros worth of goods, up by 10 percent when compared with the corresponding period of last year, while its total value of imported goods amounted to 63.5 billion euros, down by 3 percent year-on-year, according to the CSO figures.
