Belarus' parliamentary elections turnout exceeds 50 pct

MINSK, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Voter turnout in parliamentary elections in Belarus has reached 55.47 percent, Deputy Chairman of Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) Vadim Ipatov said on Sunday.

As at 2 p.m. local time (1100 GMT), 62.25 percent of voters have casted their ballots in Mogilev region, 61.12 percent in Vitebsk region, 60.09 percent in Gomel region, and 44.57 percent in the city of Minsk, the official said.

The parliamentary elections are held in one round, with Sunday the main election day. The elections will elect 110 deputies out of the 513 candidates for the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the 7th Convocation.

Elections are considered valid if more than half of the voters of the election district participated in the voting.

Some 35.77 percent of voters already participated in early voting from Tuesday to Saturday, according to the CEC.
