Dinamo Sassari edge Hapoel Holon in Basketball Champions League

JERUSALEM, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Hapoel Holon lost at home 94-92 to Italy's Dinamo Sassari in the sixth round of the FIBA Basketball Champions League on Tuesday.

Following their win, Sassari now have five wins and one defeat in the 8-team Group A, while Holon have three wins and three losses.

Holon led 26-25 at the end of a close first quarter, increasing the gap to 39-31 in the 17th minute, thanks to three consecutive three-pointers by Guy Pnini.

A 9-0 run brought the Italians back into the game, but Holon responded with a similar run on their way to a 50-41 lead at half-time.

Holon started the third quarter strongly and increased the gap to 59-44, but Sassari's Dyshawn Pierre and his teammates cut the deficit to 62-68 at the end of the third quarter.

Sassari grabbed an 84-83 lead with two minutes to go, increasing it to 89-86 from an important three-pointer by Curtis Jerrells with 42 seconds left on the clock.

Pierre scored a team-high 23 points, while his teammates Dwayne Evans, Marco Spissu and Jerrells added 15 points each.

Holon's shooting guard Marcus Foster led his team with 23 points, while Pnini added 20.

Holon will play their next game in Lithuania against BC Lietkabelis, while Sassari will host Spanish side Baxi Manresa, with both games to be played on December 3.
