BOGOTA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Colombian government announced on Tuesday that it would close all border crossings during a national strike on Thursday.

Colombian immigration authorities said in an announcement that 12 crossings on the nation's borders with Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela would be closed.

The decision was made as part of a national strategy to guarantee normalcy during the national strike.

Christian Kruger, general director of Colombian Immigrations, said that a unified command post would be installed at each of the country's border crossings in order to address any unexpected situation that might arise during the closure.

Verification processes would be undertaken in different regions to make sure that foreign nationals participating in the marches do so in accordance with the Colombian constitution, that is, "in a peaceful manner."

Various student, union, social, and political organizations are calling for a strike on Thursday to protest recent hikes in energy costs and urge reforms in the pension, labor and tax systems. Enditem
