Experts discuss preschool education at children's development forum

SHANGHAI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- More than 400 scholars, experts and participants from home and abroad gathered in Shanghai to discuss children's development and preschool education at the 2019 Soong Ching Ling Children's Development International Forum from Nov. 21 to 22.

The experts exchanged ideas at the forum on issues including the modernization of education and improving the quality of preschool education.

Themed "Give the most precious to children: equality, quality, integration," the forum was co-hosted by the China Welfare Institute, the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) China.

"Over the past 70 years, conditions of development and growth for China's children have been greatly improved," said Wang Jiarui, chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation.

Professor Arvind Gupta, 13th president of the University of British Columbia, said it is necessary to use high-tech to facilitate education.

Preschool education should focus on the growth needs of children, according to Yu Yongping, professor at Nanjing Normal University.

Yu added that all parents, schools and governments should shoulder the responsibilities to protect children and their rights.

Speeches and parellel forums were also held during the two-day event.
