NAIROBI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Eva Cherono wants to build her endurance in cross country before turning her focus to the upcoming World Indoor Championships, in Nanjing, China.

Cherono said in Nairobi that she wants to start off the season with cross country to build her endurance. But the focus will turn to indoor competition with the hope to make the Kenya team to the World Indoor Championships in China.

On Sunday, Cherono will be in Madrid for the Cross Internacional de la Constitution, which is part of the World Athletics Cross Country Permit series.

Following her runner-up finish against a world-class field in Atapuerca (Spain), few would bet against Kenya's Cherono in the women's 8km race. The 23-year-old was eighth at the World Championships in March and should dominate a field that includes Bahrain's Rose Chelimo, the Portuguese duo of Mariana Machado and Carla Salome Rocha plus Spain's Azucena Calvo, who finished a strong sixth in Soria.

"I like the strong challenge coming up. But I have to focus on my own strength and challenge for the medals," said Cherono.

Chelimo, the reigning world marathon silver medallist, will be eager to take some revenge on the Portuguese teenager Machado who beat her by inches in Soria last Sunday.
