NEW DELHI, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- India generates 25,000 tonnes of plastic waste every day, out of which 40 percent remains "uncollected and littered" in the environment, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar was quoted as saying on Monday.
According to him, the demand for plastic had increased significantly in the country due to its increased use in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, especially for packaging, and this had led to a big challenge of plastic waste management in the country.
The minister is learnt to have said in the parliament's Lower House that approximately 15,384 tonnes of plastic waster per day is duly collected and recycled, which is further used in manufacturing of several products.
But the remaining plastic waste remains uncollected and littered in the environment, he added.
