MACAO, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Macao's composite consumer price index (CPI) for October increased 2.86 percent year-on-year to 102.68, up 0.13 percentage points from the 2.73-percent growth in September, the special administrative region's statistic department said here on Tuesday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the increment in October was attributable to higher charges for eating out, rising rentals for dwellings and dearer prices of pork and gasoline.

The price indices of education, transport, and food and non-alcoholic beverages surged 5.24 percent, 4.85 percent and 4.76 percent respectively year-on-year, whereas the indices of communication, clothing and footwear dropped 2.57 percent and 1.93 percent.

The composite CPI for October rose 0.29 percent month-to-month. Price indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transport went up 0.67 percent and 0.45 percent respectively, driven by the ongoing growth of fresh pork prices, higher charges for eating out and dearer gasoline prices.

For the 12 months ended October, the average composite CPI increased 2.82 percent from the previous period, with notable growth in the price indices of education and transport at 5.78 percent and 4.91 percent respectively.

The average composite CPI for the first 10 months of 2019 went up 2.78 percent year-on-year.

The report added that starting from October, the DSEC releases the new CPI series rebased to the period of April 2018 to March 2019.
