MANILA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's footballers defeated defending champions Thailand 2-0 in their Group B opener at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games here on Tuesday.

Held at the City of Imus Grandstand, Indonesia's Egy Maulana Vikri scored the team's first goal in the 4th minute, before Osvaldo Haay wrapped up the win in the 86th minute.

Indonesia's win represented the first time the country had beaten Thailand at the SEA Games since 2011, when they won 3-1 on home soil in Jakarta.

Indonesia's next match is against Singapore on Thursday, with Group B also featuring Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam and Laos. Teams will play each other once in a mini-league format, with the top two teams after five matches qualifying for the semifinals.
