COPENHAGEN, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Denmark is ready to send some 200 soldiers to Iraq to lead a NATO operation in the war-torn country, Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod announced here on Tuesday.
"We will offer to take over the lead of the training mission in Iraq, currently led by the Canadians, to start at the end of next year until mid-2022," said Kofod after a meeting with the Danish Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee.
The offer came ahead of the NATO summit scheduled for next week in London.
"The decision continues our fight against the Islamic State and helps Iraqis deal with the security threat from the terrorists themselves," said the foreign minister.
Around 7,870 Danish service personnel have so far been deployed in Iraq and Syria since the emergence of the Islamic State in the Middle East in 2014. Enditem
