ULAN BATOR, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia has been striving to reduce traffic accidents by taking measures to raise public awareness and compliance with traffic rules, the country's traffic police department said Thursday.

In an effort to reduce traffic accidents, the country is scheduled to organize a national event called "Day to Strive" on Friday, it said in a statement.

Several activities to raise public awareness of the importance of traffic safety and the consequences of road traffic injuries will be held across the country during the day, it said.

In addition, all vehicles will be temporarily prohibited from moving for 10 minutes starting from 11:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT), according to the police department.

So far this year, 324 people have been killed and 1,004 others injured in traffic accidents in the country.

The most common causes of traffic accidents are over-speeding and alcohol.

In 2018, more than 560 people died and nearly 4,800 people were injured in traffic accidents in the Asian country.
