Ethiopia, China officials vow to further strengthen bilateral ties

ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian and Chinese officials have vowed to further strengthen ties across various sectors.

Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedu Andargachew, during his meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Tan Jian, said the diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and China has been long-established and strategic, a statement from the ministry said.

"China will benefit a lot through strengthening its relation with Ethiopia, which is a gateway to the steadfastly and continuously growing African continent," the statement said.

Noting that many Chinese investors have made significant investments in the East African country, the Ethiopian foreign minister further expressed his hope that "the favorable business environment in Ethiopia will also help increase the number of Chinese investors exponentially."

Andargachew, who noted that many Ethiopian students are studying in higher education institutions in China, also commended China's support to Ethiopia in the capacity building sector.

Tan on his part said that Chinese investors are keen to engage in various investment sectors in Ethiopia, including tourism and large-scale development projects. He also vowed to "work hard" to further attract Chinese investors to the East African country.
