SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 62nd Annual San Francisco Chronicle International Auto Show, which opened here on Thanksgiving Day, is attracting potential buyers for electric vehicles.

The event, which is regarded as the largest auto exposition in the Bay Area, drew not only some of the world's top brands, such as Aston Martin, Bentley and Lamborghini, but also leading consumer car makers, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Toyota, Volkswagen and Lexus.

As fuel efficiency and zero emissions are becoming top considerations of many consumers who care a lot about future environment, auto manufacturers are rolling out electric vehicles at a more rapid pace.

During the on-going show, many companies, including Toyota, Honda and Ford, are showcasing hundreds of new-model vehicles, such as 2020 model cars, trucks, SUVs and Crossovers at the newly-remodeled Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco.

Elliot Brower, an employee for a tech company, said he is "browsing" for a larger-capacity vehicle for his family of three kids.

"I'm just looking for something that's more functional for our family. We have three kids, and we need something big," he said.

Brower said he maybe is going to replace his current gas-fuel car with a new one in the next two or three years and the auto show is a good opportunity to have a look at new cars for more alternatives.

"So (I'm) just seeing what's out there and where the trends are going. But also just looking at new cars is always fun," he said.

He added that he would like to see a lot more electric vehicles because "the technology is there."

"I think we have to make a switch to electric or some alternative because gas is a finite source," he explained.

"If we're gonna get an electric van or electric SUV, that'd be fantastic," he added.

William Mooney, a middle-aged man from Vallejo city in northern California who shared Brower's views, said he was very much impressed by some of the electric vehicles on display at the show.

"I'm always interested in seeing that. In fact, we were looking at a Subaru Crosstrek which is a plug in hybrid," he said.

He noted that e-vehicles are not only environment-friendly, but also have become more powerful with more "long-rangers", no less than traditional gas-powered vehicles.

Moreover, the government is giving a big push to the switch to e-vehicles, he said.

"There's a display right over there that talks about federal tax rebate credits if you buy an electric vehicle or a plug in hybrid and all that stuff, so, I mean that's always an incentive," he said.

"You can get almost 5,000 U.S. dollars back from the government if you buy the electric vehicle. And that's always something to think about," noted Mooney.

The five-day auto show is running from Thursday through next Monday.
