GABORONE, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- China accounted for 30 percent of Asia's total exports to Botswana in September, the southern African country's statistical agency said on Friday.
Statistics Botswana said in its report for September that imports from Asia were valued at 36.4 million U.S. dollars, representing 7.5 percent of the country's total imports.
Meanwhile, 81.6 percent of imports were sourced from the Southern African Customs Union, which consists of Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini, valued at 395.3 million dollars.
Botswana's imports from China were worth 11.0 million dollars, or 2.3 percent of total value, followed by India at 2.1 percent, and Japan at 1.2 percent, according to the report.
The main commodities imported from Asia were machinery and electrical equipment with a contribution of 24.4 percent of total imports from the region in September, and vehicles and transport equipment at 18.8 percent, it said.
Furthermore, the Asian region exported diamonds constituting 14.7 percent of total imports during the period under review, it noted.
