FARAH, Afghanistan, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Nine militants have reported killed as the government forces targeted Taliban hideouts in Lash Wa Juwyn district of the western Farah province, said Defense Ministry in a statement released Sunday.
A group of Taliban fighters, according to the statement was going to attack security checkpoints in the restive district late Saturday night but the security forces in pre-emptive operations stormed the militants' hideouts killing nine including their commander Mawlawi Shamsudin on the spot.
Taliban militants who have intensified activities over the past several months to overrun Farah's provincial capital the Farah city 695 km west of Kabul have yet to make comment.
