BUDAPEST, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The first winter snowfall in Hungary caused delays for cars, trains and planes on Monday morning in Budapest, local media reported.

"Due to black ice and mandatory aircraft de-icing, the ground handling process is slower than usual. Delays should be expected," Budapest Airport said in a statement.

"We ask passengers to keep an eye on Budapest Airport's flight information, and to contact your airline, if necessary," it said.

Disruptions were also reported at Budapest's Western Railway Station. According to local media, train services at the station were delayed by more than one hour or two hours, while some were even cancelled.

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony called on volunteers to help clean the streets.

While in the northern, eastern and central parts of Hungary, roads were wet and snowy as a result of rain and snowfall, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The snowfall is expected to cease on Monday afternoon, but the temperatures will remain under zero degree Celsius for most of the week, local media reported.
