Death toll of Morocco bus accident rises to 17

RABAT, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Four more people died after a bus overturned in Morocco on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 17, official news agency MAP reported Monday.

At least 35 people were injured, including eight in critical conditions, when the accident happened near the town of Bab Marzouka, 300 km east of the capital Rabat, on the highway linking the cities of Taza and Fez.

Only three people were discharged from hospital after treatment.

Local authorities said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Deadly road accidents are common in Morocco, often caused by bad road conditions and reckless driving.

A total of 1,357 people were killed in road accidents in Morocco in the first four months of 2019, up 10 percent year on year, according to official statistics.
