TIRANA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Albanian President Ilir Meta Wednesday lauded the contribution of the armed forces in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake.
In a Facebook post marking the 107th anniversary of the foundation of the Albanian Armed Forces, Meta highlighted the role of the Armed Forces in coping with the situation after the 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the country on Nov. 26 claiming 51 lives.
Meta, also the Commander in Chief of the Armed Force, praised them for showing professionalism, dedication, and love to save the people left in the debris.
Meanwhile, Minister of Defense Olta Xhacka said that in this 107th anniversary, Albanian Armed Forces are closer than ever to the community.
"A whole nation is grateful to you today and always, to the silent heroes who arrive first wherever Albanians are in need," Xhacka said.
Albanian Defense Ministry and Armed Forces were established on Dec. 4, 1912, six days after the country declared independence.
