KIGALI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Human resources training programs that China offered to Rwanda made a "significant breakthrough" in 2019, as the number of Rwandans receiving trainings reached a "historic high," Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda Rao Hongwei said here Wednesday.
In 2019, around 400 Rwandans attended various courses and seminars in China's human resources development training programs, nearly doubling the number of last year, Rao told a seminar hosted by the Chinese embassy discussing the programs.
The training programs meet the needs of Rwanda, and cover areas including state governance, political party building, agriculture, e-commerce, and poverty reduction, Rao said.
Wednesday's seminar gathered some 200 Rwandans who have received such trainings in recent years, and six of them shared their experience and gains.
The training programs will help Rwanda deliver its national development goals, as the landlocked African country is targeting an upper middle-income economy by 2035 and a high-income economy by 2050, said Zephanie Niyonkuru, deputy CEO of Rwanda Development Board.
The programs will help Rwanda create 1.5 million jobs, a target set in the National Strategy for Transformation 2017-2024 which guides Rwanda's development agenda, and will also increase productivity of Rwanda's workforce and promote economic development, said Niyonkuru.
"We will continue to work together to make sure that we train more people and have more people come from China to share experience," the senior official said.
Several National Executive Committee commissioners of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) party attended the seminar. Commissioner Constantin Rukundo said the party appreciates Rwanda's cooperation with China.
The training programs help Rwandan people acquire skills that support and sustain Rwanda's development, he said, adding the RPF draws inspiration from the Communist Party of China.
