BELGRADE, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of scientists and science presenters gather here to transfer their knowledge to tens of thousands of schoolkids from Serbia and neighboring countries at the 13th Science Festival, which opened at the Belgrade Fair on Thursday.

On a floor space of more than 6,500 square meters, dozens of colorful stands promote trendy topics in the world of technology, such as 5G, robotics and renewable energy sources, while others offer mainstream science demonstrations, including those about the theory of evolution, electricity or microbiology to elementary and high school students from Serbia and neighboring Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Their 700-odd "teachers" are scientists, experts and science presenters who come here from Serbian and foreign institutes, universities and companies.

Teams from France, Austria, the U.S., Slovenia, Estonia, Israel, Poland and the Czech Republic are scheduled to appear on the main stage to treat the audience to myth-busting, optical delusions, magic tricks and brain games.

"Among other things, visitors can experience here how a science escape room looks like," Mladen Savkovic, a member of festival's public relations team, told Xinhua. "They need to solve scientific puzzles in order to get out. They can also learn about life in the Arctic and the Antarctica and many other things."

The organizers will name several children from each visiting school as "ambassadors of science" with the aim of motivating their peers to engage in experiments and improve their scientific knowledge.

In 2018, around 30,000 children visited this festival, and the organizers expect an even higher turnout this year.

The event lasts until Dec. 8.
