GENEVA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Almost a quarter of working people in Switzerland indicate that the nature of their work has changed in the past 12 months with the introduction of new software or electronic equipment, according to a latest Swiss survey released on Tuesday.

The survey, conducted by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office on information and communications technology usage in households and by individuals, showed that in Switzerland, four out of ten workers have to learn how to handle new software or equipment.

Twenty-nine percent of those being surveyed said they spend more and more time acquiring new skills, and almost a quarter of the workforce believes that these tools have facilitated collaboration with colleagues or business partners.

According to the survey, mobile internet usage has become the norm in Switzerland, with eight out of ten people connecting to the Internet by mobile phones outside their home or workplace.

Only 7 percent of the Swiss population said they do not use a mobile device. In 2017, the figure was at 25 percent.

Communication is still the most important online activity for private purposes, first and foremost is the sending and receiving of e-mails, followed by instant messaging, the survey found.

It also found that videoconferencing and Internet telephony are also becoming more widespread. Between 2017 and 2019, the proportion of users has risen from 41 percent to 65 percent of the population.

The survey found that the share of Internet users in the adult population of Switzerland continues to increase, from 84 percent in 2014 to 90 percent in 2017 and 93 percent in 2019.
