Gunmen kidnap 3 construction workers in central Nigeria

ABUJA, Dec. 10(Xinhua) -- Three construction workers including two expatriates have been kidnapped by gunmen from a village in Nigeria's central state of Niger, local police said on Tuesday.

Only one Nigerian was identified among the three victims who are the staff of Triacta Construction Company, a Lebanese firm in Kogo Village of Shiroro local government area of the state on Monday.

They were working on road construction in the area when the gunmen struck, said the police.

Adamu Usman, the police chief in Niger, told reporters that the gunmen who carried out the attack disguised as military men.

According to Usman, they wore military uniforms and rode on over 20 motorcycles to the construction site.

"They overpowered the policemen on duty and abducted the victims on motorcycles to the bush," the police officer said.

A search party has already launched a rescue operation for the victims, he said.

"We are doing everything humanly possible to rescue the victims unhurt," the police chief added.
