5.3-magnitude earthquake jolts Greece's Crete island

ATHENS, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Greece's Crete island on Tuesday at 23:58 local time (2158 GMT), according to the Athens Observatory Geodynamic Institute.

The tremor's epicenter was located 40 km west of Kasos and 377 km southeast of Athens.

An aftershock of 3.4 on the Richter scale was recorded a few minutes later.

No injuries or extensive material damages have been reported by local authorities.
