ASWAN, Egypt, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt and the African Union signed on Wednesday an agreement for hosting the African Union Center for Reconstruction and Development (AUC-PCRD) in Cairo.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Chairman of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki have signed the AUC-PCRD agreement after the conclusion of the opening session of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development that kicked off in Aswan city of southern Egypt.

In his speech, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said "we aim to make the AUC-PCRD a comprehensive coordinating platform and a thoughtful mind for preparing special programs for the post-conflict countries, based on the characteristics of each country."

He added the center will protect the post-conflict countries' rights in the property of the reconstruction and development path.

The president reiterated that "today, we need to revive and activate the framework of African continent policy for reconstruction and development after the conflicts, and translate it into executive plans for safeguarding those countries from the dangers of setbacks."

The hosting country agreement ceremony was attended by presidents of Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Comoros along with international politicians and diplomates.

The Aswan forum was announced by al-Sisi in February during an African Union summit in Addis Ababa.
