BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- "Xiao Hong," an original opera based on the life experience of a Chinese writer Xiao Hong, premiered at the New Tsinghua Xuetang at Tsinghua University Monday.

Produced by the China National Opera House, the opera tells Xiao's life of growing from a literary youth to a progressive writer, focusing on her unremitting pursuit for freedom and love, deep affection for her homeland and its people, and her stern persistence in writing despite poverty, illness, loneliness and instabilities in life.

"We paid a lot of attention to how to give a full description of Xiao Hong's short but sophisticated life in the limited length of the opera," said Liao Xianghong, director of the opera and a professor with the Central Academy of Drama.
